We are looking for skilled Ground Operations Engineers to join our team and play a key role in providing engineering support to operations within the Galileo program. You will work in a high-availability environment, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the ground segment systems that keep Europe’s global navigation satellite system (GNSS) running smoothly.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

✅ Education

  • Degree in telecommunications, aerospace engineering, informatics or equivalent

✅ Technical Skills

  • Experience in Linux and Windows system
  • Experience in the preparation, engineering, and execution of ground system operations, as well as in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and maintenance
  • Familiarity with navigation ground segments
  • Knowledge of GNSS fundamentals
  • Procedure writing and documentation review

 

✅ Additional requirements

  • 1+ years of experience as a Ground Operations Engineer, with a focus on system monitoring and routine operations in space, aerospace, telecommunications, or similar environments
  • Problem-solving mindset and a proactive approach
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate across departments
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Eligibility for security clearance
  • Willingness to travel within Europe when required

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

As a Ground Operations Engineer, you will be part of the Galileo Ground Segment, a critical component of the Galileo satellite navigation system. Your role will involve preparing, planning, coordinating and executing operations for optimising the ground segment infrastructure while collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure high availability and reliability of Galileo services.

 

  • Prepare, support, and execute system, segment, and element operation validation activities
  • Develop, review, and update Operations Plans and Concept documents
  • Maintain and control Ground and Secure Operations Procedures
  • Ensure database preparation, coordination, synchronisation, and verification
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of activities by providing inputs and execution feedback for Ground Operations.
  • Monitor and schedule contacts between Galileo satellites and uplink stations, accounting for ongoing station outages and availability constraints.
  • Oversee and manage the Ground Control Segment during the critical LEOP phase of satellite missions
  • Assume on-console and on-call responsibilities for both ground and secure operations
  • Continuously monitor ground service and signal in space performance, initiating corrective actions when necessary
  • Handle incidents and anomalies in accordance with KPIs, including detailed documentation and active participation in review boards
  • Support software engineering tasks and collaborate with external stakeholders for data exchange and resolution of service outages
  • Assist the Shift Lead and contribute to special operations as required
  • Ensure continuous (24/7) KPI data collection, reporting, and on-call support for Ground Operations
  • Support Ground Operations processes—including planning, reporting, anomaly handling, and reviews—while contributing to automation efforts, evaluating Control Segment enhancements, and improving operational procedures
