Today Esyen is well-established and a point of reference for the space industry. We have been working in space Earth observation programs such as Metop, Envisat, Pleiades and telecommunications space programs such as Galileo and EGNOS for more than two decades.
Within Galileo, we have been selected by Thales Alenia space and Gmv – as prime contractor for the development of Ground Segments, to guide the integration, validation, and maintenance of control centres in Italy, Germany, France, and Spain.

The aphorism of the writer Ennio Flaiano is well suited for the genesis and growth of Esyen, a company that was founded in 2012 and today it is a point of reference for the space industry, and it is able to provide a complete and structured service.
The meeting between two engineers, Gianluca Esposito and Leonardo Sulla was decisive, they cooperated for twenty years in the aerospace sector, and in 2011 in Munich, working with their two companies they designed the first satellite in the polar orbit Metop (Meteorological Operational satellite), which provides global data for weather forecasts.
The knowledge of the two engineers combined together to offer a high consultancy service to the main European aerospace projects in the emerging sector of “satellite information technologies”.
The Galileo project has been the first try-out and it is the European Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) created by the European Union through the European Space Agency (ESA) and managed by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). It consists of a constellation of thirty satellites in medium orbit (Meo), two control centres (in Italy and Germany), two security monitoring centres (in France and Spain), six TT&C stations, ten Uls stations and thirty GSS stations.

Esyen’s activity, on behalf of the European Commission, was initially developed within the “Piero Fanti” Space Centre of Fucino, in the region of Abruzzo. This has been active since 1963 and today, with its 170 antennas and 370,000 square metres of surface, it is recognised as the first and most important “teleport” in the world for civil uses. The Space Centre manages, among other activities, the data distribution network of the Galileo system (GDDN), which includes about fifty ground stations.
From 2014 onwards the activity of Esyen, which in the meantime has formed a team of engineers and computer scientists of high level, has expanded the activity beyond national borders, by collaborating with Galileo’s other European control centres, in Munich, in the offices of the German Space Agency and in Madrid and Paris, where Esyen deals with cyber security.
Through its high-profile of expertise, Esyen has provided and provides consulting services for leading European Earth observation space projects.
In addition, Esyen provided support to ESA and Thales Alenia Space France for the Phase D and Phase E activities of the Envisat (“Environmental Satellite”) project, which was the largest civilian Earth observation satellite in the world, operated by ESA. Furthermore, it worked in the Pléiades project, within the Franco-Italian programme Orfeo (Optical and Radar Federated Earth Observation), which was composed by two optical satellites for a very high images resolution of the Earth and it provided the cover of the Earth’s surface with a repeated cycle of 26 days. As part of the Metop programme, Esyen also supported Eumetsat, Thales Alenia Space France and NOAA for phase D and phase E activities.
It now collaborates with Thales Alenia Space and Euspa for the phase D activities of the Egnos V3 project, the evolution of the Egnos (European geostationary navigation overlay service) programme, the first pan-European satellite navigation system aimed to improve the accuracy of global positioning systems.
Esyen has appeared in the “Leader of growth” ranking of the economic newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore and Statista, which places it in the 180th position among the Italian companies with the greatest increase in turnover between 2017 and 2020. Esyen had, in fact, an increase of its turnover from 1,207,000 euros to 3,869,000 euros in 2017 and from nine to twenty-five employees, now up to forty-five.
Moreover, Esyen has been recognised in the Financial Times as one of the one thousand European companies with major growth.
